Hi after some 5 years of not realising I was losing my frontal hair but having lost one eyebrow and most of the other one as well as arm hair , I went to the dermatologist who diagnosed FFA. I have been using dermovate- not sure it's doing much and will be prescribed malaria pills on my next consultation . Does anyone have a view how long this takes to burn itself out . I can see the temple hair receding faster than the front and more on one side than the other ( matching the eyebrow loss ) . Keen to hear thoughts or comments
Hello I'm not sure really what the answer to your question is. Like you I think I must have been suffering for about 5 years before I really realised what was happening. It's now been about 18months since diagnosis and I'm afraid my hair loss seems to have speeded up again. All my eyebrows, arm and leg hair has gone and my hairline has receded by about 8cm. I've been on the anti-malaria medication for about 6 months, but I've not noticed any change or slow up.
My doctor told me that there doesn't seem to be a set pattern to the progress of the condition with some women losing up to 12cm off their hair line before it just stops - it can take years apparently, although in my case at the moment the loss seems to be quite aggressive :(
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful and I sympathise with what you're going through, I think that's one of the things that's the hardest to cope with when you suffer from FFA; the not knowing what comes next and just how aggressive it's going to be.
I'm currently searching for a skilled and sympathetic hairdresser who may or may not be able to do something with my remaining hair and supply a hair piece that will hide the worst of the condition.
